Arrival in Malawi

We arrived on Wednesday after much too long on planes! Only one bag was lost, but thankfully it was found and sent to the Malawi airport the next day. However, we spent most of Thursday getting the bag, changing money, grocery shopping, etc. Friday we attended a medical conference at the new Daeyang Luke Hospital. This is a lovely new hospital outside of the capital, built by the Korean Christian church. It is meant to offer quality health care to the nationals. We are hoping to offer our services there as well as the ABC clinic, as they have a start up ED and ambulance service. Today (Monday) was my first full day in the ABC clinic. It was great to be back working in Malawi, and I was surprised how quickly some of it 'came back to me'. The first picture is the patient cachement area (villages), the second is the front of the new Daeyang Luke hospital.

The weather is lovely - African winter, cool nights, warm days, and very dry. The Internet is slow but working if we have power. We did spend most of our second day with no water, but now that is on. The power comes and goes. Makes planning your day a little tricky, but it is OK. We brought lots of Dan's Smokehouse jerky, so we always have some protein available!
