Back in Malawi

We arrived the afternoon of Aug 2 (Thursday). Joseph is coming Monday, so we ladies are alone! I am accompanied by daughter, Mandy, and her friend, Karri.  By the time we got through at the airport, made a quick trip for groceries and dinner, day 1 was pretty much gone.  Thanks for all the prayers for travel and arrival. The first day (travel from DFW to Washington DC) we had the flight changed from 7:30 AM to 5 PM, then delayed another 1 1/2 hours, then United assigned me a seat that did not exist.  We arrived in Washington late, losing our first 1/2 day there. However, the next day the Washington DC tour went well - except the rainfall when we were on top of the double decker bus. On Wed. we started the long journey from USA to Malawi. A friend, Annie Brown, was on the same flight, so that made it even more fun. We had no hiccups with those two flights, all of our bags arrived with us (amazing) and the customs lady just waved all three of us through (even more amazing!!).  Day 2 (Friday) we went to see a C-section at the ABC clinic - Mandy even got to cut the umbilical cord. We then did more serious grocery shopping, had my Malawian phone activated and just tried to fight jet lag. This morning (Sat) we went to the ABC Chapel for Mandy to meet with the praise and worship team for Flood church (where I attend while here). She got to practice a little with the group but does not have a guitar at present. We are hoping she will get to play with them in a couple weeks.  We then picked up Carson White to go to the market for vegetables.  If any of you remember the little guy from last year, Mphanbano, the  malnourished little boy who could not walk - he is now adopted by  Carson and her husband. He is thriving, talking and able to walk. He has almost tripled his weight from last year.  Carson accompanied us to the market, hoping to introduce us to her main contact there - he was not there today, but the man working in his place hooked us up with some good deals on fresh vegetables and fruit. Karri bought the largest radish I have ever seen!  We ended up with radishes, broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, cabbage, eggplant, pineapple, strawberries and bananas.  It was an experience for the girls - the crush of people, the little beggar boy, the mud and the smell.  After we took Carson home, then the veggies, we went to lunch at the Cappucino Cafe in the Cross roads center. I think I can honestly say that we are still suffering from jet lag - not sleeping well, up too early, etc.  Prayers would be helpful for us in this area!  On the bright side, I am driving and so far, so good.

Praise reports: safe travels, no problems at customs, internet that is functional!
Prayer needs: continued safety, Joseph's safe travels and arrival on Monday, recovery from our jet lag.  Also pray for the upcoming clinic at Gusu on this Wednesday.
