Newlyweds and Dr. Terrence Carey and team

Sunday, Luke noticed some new neighbors in the 2 bedroom duplex next to us. Turns out they were newly weds, and we met them and ended up invited them to lunch. A very lovely couple and we enjoyed chatting with them and providing a simple lunch. Later that afternoon we met up with Dr. Terrence Carey and his 'team' to make arrangements to help them with some village clinics. We did the first on today, out past Bunda Mountain. Not terribly busy, but enough to keep us out of trouble! I am posting a few photos. We plan on going with them on Tuesday and Wednesday, so expect more photos. We saw several malaria cases, lots of colds / flu / bronchitis, tons af 'general body pain' and one very sad little guy as the last patient of the day - his Mom brought him with the complaint of constipation but his little abdomen was stretched to the max. Reviewing his book, I found that he had known Hirschsprung's disease but had never had surgery. Now he has megacolon! Getting a history from Mom was a challenge (part of my challenge today - a big part of my challenge, was a translator who didn't know anything about medicine), but she said the central hospital sent them home saying it was witchcraft. Now, I totally don't believe that BUT I could see some villagers telling her that. Fortunately, Kamazu Central Hospital now has an awesome pediatric surgeon, so we told her to take him back to KCH and ask for Dr. Nandi. Hoping / praying she does or that little guy will surely die!  Hopefully the next couple of days will go smoothly, and I think I am changing translators tomorrow!
